This week we experimented making slideshow presentations on different applications such as: Animoto, Prezi, photopeach etc. The one I ultimately ended up choosing to make my presentation with was Animoto. Animoto is a very easy to use tool, that I was able to grasp rather quickly. I had a lot of fun making my own short video with this tool and I was happy with the end result. I have used tools similar to this before such as Prezi, however I have to say I enjoyed using Animoto much more. Since you have to pay for full access I was only able to use the free trial version but it still exceeded my expectations.

I can definitely see myself adding Animoto to my PLE diagram. I would have to add it to my presentation applications alongside google docs, and PowerPoint. What I liked more about this tool compared to Google Docs and PowerPoint is how it limits the amount of words you can say on one slide. Often times people create PowerPoint slides where there are way too many words on one slide, making it look very cramped. Animoto restricts your ability to add to much information keeping a nice clean layout throughout. Like I said before making my slideshow on Animoto was a lot of fun, but not only did I have fun making it I also learned more about becoming a digital citizen in the process. The whole point of making this video was to express the importance of citing images and present it in a fun way. After creating my own video I thought about how I would feel if someone used it and didn't credit me. In all honesty it wouldn't feel so great, and I would like to be mentioned for something that I created. So I would say more than anything that creating this video helped me to realize how important it is to cite work if it's not your own, as I was able to put it in perspective with my own work. I am looking forward to seeing what other people in the class have made, and I also encourage others too check out my video and leave comments !
The item from my feedly that I will be sharing this week is an article titled
6 Floating Buildings Powered by the Sun. This article instantly caught my eye on my feed this week as I am often amazed by very unique and different ways of doing things. With the population growing there is less land to build homes, so many individuals are turning to water to make their own self sufficient homes. I am not sure if this is something I would ever live in permanently but it is definitely a very cool idea.
Hi Ryan,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you - Animoto was pretty easy to use! I'm also glad you found it more enjoyable to use than Prezi. Prezi is one tool I have very limited experience with and it looks much harder to use/get the hang of. I also agree that people sometimes put way too many words on PowerPoint slides, but for me the limited word count was the one drawback of Animoto. Although too many words on a slide is unnecessary, I found that Animoto did not allow enough words for it to be a useful tool for say, school presentations, for example. With that being said, I too added Animoto to my PLE because of its slideshow capabilities for photos and easiness to use.
Thanks for your post!

Hi Ryan,
ReplyDeleteAnimoto is pretty easy to use but one thing I would think about is the fact that you are limited to only certain fonts and styles until you pay for the more advanced stuff. I did add it to my PLE but I find I wont use it as often.
Great Post!

Hi Ryan,
ReplyDeleteNice to see that you had fun creating your slideshow with Animoto. I actually chose to use Prezi for my slideshow, but seeing as how a lot of our classmates used Animoto, I think I missed out on a great chance to use Animoto; I will have to look into that tool into more depth at a later date. Giving credit to the creator of the original work is a big deal! For me, I just view it as theft as you are basically stealing somebody's work and using it as your own. We are taught as students to not plagiarize and we need to remember this and stick to this rule even after school is done.
Great post!
